Katherine Floyd, 36, of Stephenville, TX, horse operations manager of the Rockin' M Horse Ranch in Morgan Mill, TX, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at a Dallas hospital from injuries sustained in a train truck collision in Tioga, TX, on January 20, 2006. She had so much "Try" and so much "Heart," but the injuries proved to be too severe for her to overcome.
She will be greatly missed and mourned by her husband of six years, Toby Floyd of Stephenville, TX; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Remmert of Bellville, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Christian and Kim Remmert of Houston, TX; a daughter, Cierra Floyd of Burleson, TX; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Douglas and Cynthia Floyd of Seagraves, TX. She is also survived by her aunts, uncles, many cousins, and a host of very dear friends, both human and animal, especially her Buckskin horse, Monte, and her three legged cat, Hop-a-Long. Katherine was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Kemp of Amite, LA, and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Remmert of Bellville, TX.
Katherine was born to Bruce and Neville (Kemp) Remmert on May 1, 1970, in Houston, TX. She was raised in Houston, TX and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, graduating in 1988. She was a very proud Aggie, graduating from Texas A&M with a degree in Agricultural Economics in 1992. While at A&M, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Social Sorority, The Saddle and Sirloin Club, and rode with the polo team her freshman year.
Katherine was a very beautiful person, both physically and spiritually. Her smile could light up a room and her kind and loving heart drew everyone to her. Her kind heart led her to rescue many abandoned and injured animals, treating their injuries, nutering them, and finding them a home, if not hers, all at her expense. She was truly a very unique individual who added so very much to this world.
At the time of her death, she was living her life-long dream of working with horses as the Ranch Manager of the horse operation at the Rockin' M Peruvian Paso Ranch in Stephenville, TX, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Mike Mewhinney who gave Katherine the freedom to expand her talents in this area. She bred, trained, and showed many champion horses at shows all over the country and had developed quite a reputation as an accomplished rider and trainer. She was the featured Expert of the Month in ranch management in the recent issue of the magazine, "Peruvian Classified." She was also well known on the barrel circuit in central Texas with her Buckskin, her beloved Monte. Besides her own job, Katherine worked with her husband in their company, Floyd Performance Stock, developing through genetics their own individual strain of bucking bulls, whose reputations had also begun to grow. Katherine also solicited food and funds for abandoned horses after Hurricane Katrina.
Those wishing to honor her memory may do so by donating to Hopeful Haven Equine Rescue Organization, Inc., P.O. Box 17763, Shreveport, LA, 71136, or visit their website at www.hopeful haven.com.

Neville & Bruce, We are so sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter, Katherine. She looks just like you, Neville. As Steve & I can attest there is nothing anyone can say to make the pain any less. After 8 months I am starting to remember more of the fond memories instead of the sadness. I can say because of this I have become closer to God, and have discovered he sometimes uses these painful situations to fulfill his will in our lives. I am anxious to visit with you when you are ready. May God comfort you at this time. Love, Kathy

Neville, I was so upset when I heard about Katherine. I know how much you cherished her and she made you so proud. Katherine was always a special young lady and I always enjoyed seeing her when she came to work with you. I guess we had so much in common with our daughters being they were the same age and participating in the FFA. Again, I am so sorry and my prayers have been with you, Bruce and Katherine's husband the last 6 months.

Katherine was our daughter's (Becky Grimes-Cates) roommate at college for one year. I look back at that time and began to remember all the college stories that was told to us and can smile, thinking of those days. Katherine went with us to Las Vegas to the National Finals Rodeo that year and we had a great time. I even went over to Vince Gill and got an autograph for her. She couldn't believe that I would do that. I just wanted you to know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers during this sad time.

To Toby Floyd and to Mr. and Mrs. Remmert, I knew Katherine from high school. I always saw her as such a gentle spirit. I believe a little bit of that lives on in all of those fortunate enough to have known her. She was a beautiful girl with a true gift. It sounds as if she celebrated her God given talents by using them in full force every day of her life. My prayer for peace goes out to each of you. Laura (Martinez) Tyson

I was completely blown away by this news...Katherine was one of my roommates at A&M for a short time, but I was just thinking of her the other day...I just loved her, the short time we knew each other was so fun and she was a very memorable person...please accept my deepest condolences and know that she made an impact on anybody she met....I am just so unbelievably taken aback by this and saddened by the fact that I didn't know sooner. To her family, God bless you and keep you through this, she was a blessing.

Katherine's spirit lives on and I found out just how so the other day...we were low on funds for the 24 horses we have in the rescue...and out of the blue one of her close friends sent a check for $900. from a saddle they had raffled...it was like she knew we needed that...I prayed and she helped answer our prayer...that's Katherine...still working from the other side...all will miss her but her presence is still being known

She was so beautiful and such a joy. It's so hard to accept. I pray that you can find comfort somehow and maybe just knowing friends are supporting you and sharing can ease the pain a bit.
