Mineral Wells - Services for Alma Jean (Jernigan) Boone, 88, a housewife, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Vera Community Center in Vera, Texas.

Alma was born in Bomarton, Texas on February 16, 1928 to Wallace and Viola Jernigan.  She married Clifford Phillip Boone on August 25, 1946. Together they had three children: Frances Sharilyn (Boone) Henderson, Kathy Marlene (Boone) Sims, and Susan Jean (Boone) Kennedy.

Alma was the youngest of five children. She was a housewife and always at home for her children, no matter where home might be, as they moved over forty times following the oil drilling.

The family spent many years in Irann, Texas where Clifford worked for Ohio (later Marathon) Oil Company. They picked a great town to raise children. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Alma loved to play bridge with her friends. She was also a great country cook. Later on in life she was a lecturer for Weight Watchers.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Boone; her parents, Wallace and Viola Jernigan; sisters, Frances Kuchan and Mozelle McHughes; brothers, Dois Clouse and Orville Jernigan; and daughter, Susan Kennedy.

Alma is survived by her daughters, Frances “Shari” Henderson and husband, Frank of Mineral Wells, Texas, Kathy Sims and husband, John near Victoria, Texas; son-in-law, Gary Kennedy; five grandchildren, Heather Pray, Phillip Boone, Mark Stevens, Lauren Kennedy Balderas, and Erin Sims Ledbetter; eight great-grandchildren, Sydne Austin, Kynlee Stevens, Paige and Payton Boone, Angus and Marshall Pray, and Isla Ledbetter. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Judy Nash was her loyal friend, visiting her every day. Another friend, John Flores always offered a helping hand.

Memorials may be made to the Knox County Museum at 200 E. Hays, Benjamin, Texas 79505 and to The Vera Cemetery Association at 1070 County Road 4185, Seymour, Texas 76380.
