Sonny was one of my favorite Professors. Back then I was a struggling single Mom putting myself through college and living at a housing project. He new at the time I had no car and no way to get to our tour of the prison so he picked me up himself and took me. He crawled through my housing complex in a car that looked like he was an old school gangster with his windows all tinted out or an undercover narcotics officer. My neighbors had a field day with the possible rumors of what this little white girl got herself into and Sonny knew it and we just laughed and laughed as we rolled on out. He was funny and kind and spoke highly of his wife and family and he encouraged us on and enlightened us on how the world turned with its many cultures and belief systems. He will always be one of the greats!

My condolences to the entire family. Sonny was such an inspiration to me and many others in the community college system. He challenged me and made me a better critical thinker. I will always have fond memories of him.
