Stephenville - Memorial service for Tony Gonzales, 56, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Lacy Funeral Home with Elder Joshua McClain officiating.

Tony was born in Brady, Texas on June 23, 1960 to Carlos and Lydia Gonzales. He lived in Stephenville all of his adult life, and was the street superintendent for the City of Stephenville for 30 years. He took his responsibility as a civil servant very seriously. He took a lot of pride in building a good street and in being frugal with the taxpayer dollars.  During bad weather, he could be seen all over town helping stranded motorists and keeping the roads safe.  He was always was the first man out and the last one home. He was a man with a big heart. . If he learned of someone in need, he would go out of his way to help them however he could. Almost every year, he quietly bought and delivered holiday turkeys and Christmas toys to struggling families. If you were stranded, he would give you a lift.  If you needed shelter, he would offer his couch.  If you were down, he would make you laugh. If you needed a dollar, he would give you his last one. He especially enjoyed helping and bringing smiles to the faces of young people. He never saw a stranger.

When he wasn’t working, he could often be seen in Walmart buying ingredients for a new recipe. He was a good cook and he enjoyed preparing and sharing delicious dishes with friends and family.  He also liked eating delicious dishes prepared by other people. In addition to the culinary arts, his hobbies included hunting, fishing, and yelling at his beloved Dallas Cowboys.  He was also an avid NASCAR fan. He loved spending time with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed teasing his nieces and nephews and spoiling his 3 grandchildren. He was the protective father, the doting grandfather, the uncle you could confide in. He was the employee you could count on and the boss who always had your back. He was the son, brother, friend, or neighbor who always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips.  He touched so many lives, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his two daughters: Elizabeth Reeves and husband James, and Mandy Kurzeja and husband Fred; former wife and friend, Lanell Gonzales; grandchildren Trunks, Roslyn and Harper Reeves; brothers Joe Gonzales, Carlos Gonzales and wife Rachel, and Robert Gonzales wife Laura; sister, Sylvia Mares and husband Jose; as well as several cousins,  nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Gilbert Gonzales of Grand Prairie.
