Jean W. Carr

Memorial services for Jean Carr (our beloved Nana) are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Lacy Funeral Home Chapel in Stephenville, Texas. Services will be officiated by Dr. Ken May and assisted by Brother Buddy Wells. Music selections are by Darrell Brown.

Jean was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Stephenville and professed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young girl. She was born April 19, 1933 in Amarillo, Texas to W.C. and Beulah Carter. She entered Heaven’s Gates August 1, 2018 on her fathers’ birthday. Her childhood years were lived in Tucumcarri, New Mexico she was one of six children and there was never a dull moment. She graduated from Tucumcarri High School where she served as class secretary. She was a Majorette and voted most beautiful. She returned to Tucumcarri yearly to gather with family and friends for the Tucumcarri Rattler Reunion. Her genuine love for life and people made her a pleasure to be around, but her entire life she displayed a servant’s heart and caring deeply for others. She had a style all her own and was a head turner when she walked in to the room. She was a proud participant with the Red Hats Society, Music Club, Garden Club, and Senior Exercise Class. She truly tried her best to help all in need. In her eighty-five years she lived in Tucumcarri, El Paso, Van Horn, and Austin until she retired in Stephenville at the age of sixty. She met the love of her life, C. L. Carr at a Parents without Partners dance in El Paso, Texas in 1972. Jean had two girls and C.L. had three girls, together after they married they blended a family of five daughters. When grand children arrived Jean fondly became know as Nana and C.L. known as Pawpaw. Together they shared a romance that lasted forty-five years until her death. Their homestead built by Pawpaw’s loving hands, known as The Little Place, became a gathering place where many memories were made. She loved the holidays and Easter was a special time where she loved to host the Easter egg hunts. Family and friends were always welcome.

She is survived by her husband, C.L. Carr; sister in law, Carolyn Hampton and husband, Hardy; brother-in-law, Gene Carr; sister, Anita Drake; daughters, Paddy Moore and husband, Tom, Kathy Klukas and husband, Tom; stepdaughters, Eyde Hassell and husband, Rusty, Beth Squier and husband, Steve, Ellen Nicholes and Kim Rezzlaff; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.C. and Beulah Carter; sisters Betty Ann Youcom, Shirley Hancock; brothers, Charles Carter and Sonny Carter.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her honor to Grace Place First Baptist, 344 W. Green, Stephenville, TX 76401
