Ryan Jackson

Funeral Services for Ryan Jackson, fifty, who died on Sunday, August 5, 2018 will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 10, 2018, at Erath County Cowboy Church with Rev. Werth Mayes Officiating. Burial will follow at Duffau Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Lacy Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Lacy Funeral Home.

Patrick Ryan Jackson was born November 18, 1967 in Roswell, New Mexico. He graduated from Goddard High School in Roswell in 1985, where he was a proud member of the FFA. On March 6, 1992 he married his soul mate and best friend, Becky Hughlett, after meeting her two short months prior while eating crickets for a radio competition. Obviously it was love at first sight, because it lasted 26 years, and was still going strong. Ryan (Becky’s Sugar Snap) not only fell in love with Becky, but with his oldest two children, Marissa and Travis. Later that year their family became “The Jackson 5” with a new baby, Logan. Ryan was an incredible father, and loved his children tremendously and was always bragging about them.

In 2003 Ryan and Becky moved their family to Texas, where they have remained since. Ryan was a long time employee of Timmons Pest Control, which was an obvious career after the cricket eating. Ryan considered Timmons his family and friends, not just his employer. Ryan found a true passion in life in his cooking. He proudly was the Head Chef of J5 Cooking Team, which consisted of his family and close friends. He loved coming up with new and exciting recipes with his partner in crime, Becky. He cooked at the Texas Steak cook off and the Bacon Bash, as well as other competitions in Texas and surrounding states. He was always selfless and cooked for charities to raise money for children, the homeless at Thanksgiving, and he catered many local events. He loved his customers on his route, and really did not consider them anything but friends. Of course Ryan never met a stranger. You always knew he was listening to you, and was genuine and kind. Growing up Ryan had the energy of five little boys in one little boy’s body. His two little sisters “the dorks” who were his pride and joy. The three of them would spend hours together playing out in the fields or Ryan giving them pumps on his bike. He made his little sisters a homemade cardboard camper on his wagon and then hooked it up to his bike and pulled them all over the neighborhood. His childhood family, “The Jackson 5”, were very involved in church, with friends, and his mom and dad took them on many road trip adventures together. Ryan grew up in a very happy, close, and loud family.

On Sunday, August 5, 2018, after a wonderful family weekend in New Mexico doing everything that he liked to do, and eating stuffed sopapillas, Christmas style, twice, he had one more thing that he had been talking about all weekend; going out “Boondocking” on four wheelers with his family. Tragically, after looking at the stars and laughing with his family, he had a terrible accident that lead to his extremely unfair and untimely death at a very young fifty years old.

Ryan is survived by his wife and best friend, Becky; His three children, Marissa and her husband, Josh Houston, Travis Jackson, Logan and his wife, Faith Jackson; his pride and joy, his grandson Patrick Ayden Jackson (Who called Ryan “Bugs”), all of Hico, Texas; his parents, Pat and Jeanette Jackson; his sister, Tisha and her husband, Rick Boss; his niece, Emily and her husband, Irving Enriquez and their children Irving Junior and Emiliano; his niece, Elaina Boss and her son Noah, all of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; his sister Tonia and her husband, Skipper Carne; his niece, Ally Harris, all of Castle Pines, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Ryan will always be remembered for his laugh, his grin, his volume, but especially his contagious joy. Let’s always remember to live like Ryan lived; laugh a lot, make friends, be generous, and quickly forgive. Ryan, we only miss you when we’re breathing.
