Alonzo “Lon” Melford Powell, Jr., 79, a retired U.S. Navy veteran, passed away February 8, 2023. His service will be Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Cottonwood Baptist Church in Dublin, Texas, at 10:00 A.M., with Chance Yankie and Mike Fritscher officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, February 13, 2023, at Lacy Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. The burial, with military honors, will be at Laurel Land Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Fort Worth, Texas, Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 2:00 P.M.
Lon was born in Ballenger, Texas, on November 26, 1943, to Alonzo Melford Powell, Sr., and Mildred (Lowry) Powell. He married Nancy (Roddy) Powell on March 7, 1987, in San Diego, California. Lon was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church, Cross Timbers Amateur Radio Club, Cedar Point Thursday Night Jam Session, and Indian Harbor Jam. Lon also worked for General Dynamics.
Lon is survived by his wife, Nancy Powell; children, Vickey and Ronald Warren of Tulsa, OK, Tammie and Brian Firkins of Midlothian, TX, Cindy and Louie Terrazas of Fort Worth, TX, and James Powell of Benbrook, TX; and his sister, MarthaJo Powell of Fort Worth, TX. Along with these survivors are his eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo M. Powell, Sr., and Mildred Powell, and his brother, Ronnie Powell.
