Obituary

Barbara Joyce Musick, 89, of Stephenville passed away quietly and peacefully at Senior Care / Lone Star Nursing Home Sunday January 9th.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Pastor Ed Dittfurth officiating.

Barbara was born in the Harbin Community near Dublin, Texas on March 14, 1932, and was the only child of Fermon and Rubye (Alexander) Wyche.

She grew up in the Harbin and Gustine communities and graduated from Gustine High School in 1950. Her maternal grandparents were Alfred A. and Ida Bell (Bradley) Alexander, whose families had moved to the Harbin Community in the early 1890's.

Barbara married James Musick in June 1950 at First Methodist Church in Hamilton, TX. She and James later divorced but had five children together.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father and mother, and by her granddaughter Melanie Coan and her grandson Justin Reynolds.

Barbara is survived by 5 children, Pamela Harris of Stephenville; Thomas Musick and wife Beatriz of Eastland; Phyllis Mosley and husband David of Dexter, Maine; Mary Reynolds of San Marcus; and Kimberley Brock and husband Daniel of Stephenville. She is survived by 12 grandchildren including Thomas Coan and wife Myndie; David Coan and wife Cindy; Norman Coan; Randy Coan; Luke Musick and wife Brandy; Katie Keith and husband Darren; Jake Musick; Jennifer Nichols and husband Mark; Joshua Anderson; Julia Reynolds and husband Jason Olfers; Kelsey Ewers; and Allie Williams and husband Kacy. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and another to arrive in July 2022.

In the early 1960's, as a young mother, Barbara worked at Earl Weather's Sandwich Shop. Barbara later worked at the Best Western Hotel in Stephenville for 20 years. She was a homemaker. She was a very shy and quiet person but worked very hard to raise and provide for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved to read mysteries by authors like Agatha Christie and Mary Higgins Clark. She was a frequent visitor of the Stephenville Public Library and took her children and grandchildren there often, providing a continued love for reading in them. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, crocheting, and watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and the Hallmark Channel. She was known for being a kind and sweet person who would do anything to help someone in need.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Barbara Musick's name to the Stephenville or Dublin Public Libraries and read a book in her honor.
