Services for Cecil Mayes, 89, Oilman, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the Cowboy Church of Erath County with Dr. James McLeod officiating. Burial will follow at Breckenridge Cemetery at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday March 10, 2022. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at the Cowboy Church of Erath County.
Cecil was born in South Bend, Texas on June 18, 1932, to Elmer and Ruth (Easley) Mayes. He married Joyce LaJean Warford on November 1, 1952, in Cisco, Texas. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2015.
Cecil was a member of the Cowboy Church of Erath County. He was a past President and member of BPOE. He also served as a County Judge for Stevens County for 4 years. Cecil was a veteran of the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the 1st Executive Director of West Central Texas Council of Governments, and he was a former owner of the Throckmorton Tribune newspaper.
Cecil is survived by his son, Werth Mayes and wife, Sadie of Stephenville, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Lauren Mayes of Stephenville, Texas, and MacKenzie Blaisdell and husband Daniel, of Weatherford, Texas; 1 great grandson, Rider Mayes of Stephenville, Texas; and a brother, Neil Mayes of Grandview, Texas.
