Obituary

It is with deep sadness that his family announces that Charles Lloyd Lamb, age 90, of Stephenville, Texas, passed away on August 28, 2023.  He was born to the late William Easter Lamb and Zora Mae (Hudson) Lamb in Oglesby, Texas, on July 27, 1933.  After graduation from Oglesby High School, Charles earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from Baylor University and a Ph.D. from East Texas State University.  His long professional life was spent in Texas education as a science teacher, coach, principal, superintendent, and professor of educational administration at Sul Ross State University.

After retiring to Stephenville, Charles continued his love of raising cattle, fishing, boating, hunting, and traveling.  He enjoyed fishing any time and any place but especially loved trout fishing in the Rockies and taking off with his buddies to the interior of Mexico to add some funny stories to their repertoire and a bountiful supply of catfish to their freezers. Charles was an accomplished man with many talents and interests who could fix or build anything if he set his mind to it.  Many people are the proud owners of beautiful rifle stocks that he carved and finished by hand, and he restored many dilapidated Jeeps back to life again to explore the mountains and valleys of the beautiful Big Bend country of Texas that he and his family loved.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Joyce Smotherman Lamb; daughters Tina Gordon and husband Dave, Kathy Cox and husband Joe, and Lisa Simpson and husband Lynn; grandchildren Audrey Wells, Terri Cox, Travis Cox, Curtis Cox, Garrett Simpson and wife Sonya, Fisher Simpson and wife Nia, and Franco Weaver; and great-grandchildren Reilly Bolden, Timothy Coleman, and Sophia Simpson.  His oldest daughter Sheree Lamb preceded him in death as did his siblings Marcus Lamb, Frances Hudson, Tommye Jane Holt, and Joan Cook.  He also leaves behind his many wonderful friends and the students whom he mentored during his lifetime.

To honor his wishes, there will be no formal service.  His expressed hope was that you would share time with friends and loved ones and that you enjoy life to the fullest as he did.  Charles will be laid to rest in the historic Belew Cemetery in Denton County.
