Charles Martin Obituary

Charles Ray Martin, 68, of Dublin, Texas, passed away on March 14, 2026. A true son of Erath County, Ray was born in Dublin on August 6, 1957, to Howitt G. Martin and Delma Jean (Howard) Martin. He spent his life embodying the quiet strength, hard work, and steady loyalty that defined his character.

Ray was the devoted husband of Paula M. Martin, his partner in life, love, and unwavering companionship. He was a constant source of strength, kindness, and support—steadfast through life’s joys and challenges, and deeply committed to the life they built together. Their marriage was rooted in mutual respect, laughter, and a shared devotion to family. A proud and guiding father, Ray is survived by his stepchildren, who carry forward his values, love, and enduring example.

A man of deep faith and community, Ray was a dedicated member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. He was also an active member of the Stephenville Bass Club, where he turned his passion for the water into lifelong friendships. Ray was happiest when he was outdoors—whether fishing, hunting, or tending to the grill. He was a master of BBQ and fish fries, believing that the best meals were those shared with family and friends. He also cherished the time he spent traveling, always eager to see new sights with those he loved.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Howitt G. Martin and Delma Jean (Howard) Martin, and his sister, Susan Martin Davis. He is survived by his beloved sister, Lupe Perez and her husband, Israel, along with several brothers- and sisters-in-law. His memory will also be cherished by his nephew, David Perez and his wife, Brenda, and his niece, Laura Perez, as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins who looked up to him as a grounding force in their lives.

A friend to all and a stranger to none, Ray was selfless to his core and a true pillar in his community. He loved Stephenville and all of the people who make it what it is. He never hesitated to be there for someone in need or striving to better themselves, and he never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation and make someone laugh. He leaves behind a legacy of grit, kindness, and a love for the outdoors that will be carried forward by the many lives he touched.
