Dane Beasley Obituary

Dane Monroe Beasley, 68, passed away suddenly on February 24, 2019.

Dane was born in Raymondville, TX on August 9th, 1950. When growing up, he lived in a farming and ranching community and participated in FFA. Through these experiences, he knew he wanted to be an agriculture teacher or county extension agent. After graduating from Tarleton State University with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education, he became both. Dane married the love of his life, Linda Rankin, in 1970. They enjoyed 49 wonderful years together, and he made her laugh every day. They were proud parents of 2 daughters, Ashley and Kathryn.

In his career, Dane taught in Edinburg ISD and Crockett ISD and worked in the extension service in Houston County and Tarrant County. After receiving his Master of Education degree at Stephen F. Austin State University, he served as a campus administrator with Crockett ISD and Orange Grove ISD. He spent the last 14 years of his career with Orange Grove ISD where he served as Director of Operations. Upon retirement, he felt lucky to be hired at Tarleton as an adjunct professor and supervisor of student teachers. He worked to educate his students about life beyond the university through conversations about becoming professionals in agriculture. He enjoyed going to work each day and encouraging his students to become their best selves. He always followed the philosophy he learned in his experiences with 4-H and FFA and encouraged his students to do the same: “It’s not the grand champion calf; it’s the grand champion kid.”

Dane was a sweet, caring, funny man who loved his family, friends, and dogs, Sugar and Scout. He worked hard to take care of those around him. He was known for his quick wit and warm nature and had a nickname for just about everyone he knew. Dane was an avid golfer in his younger years and an avid golf watcher throughout his life. He was also a Civil War buff and read many books about it throughout his life. He made the best homemade ice cream and loved to share it with his family, friends, and co-workers.

Dane is survived by his wife Linda Rankin Beasley of Stephenville, TX; daughter Kathryn Beasley Walther and son-in-law Chadwick Walther of Denton, TX; sister Kyle Kirksey and brother-in-law John Kirksey of Houston; and many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dane is preceded in death by his daughter Ashley Beasley; parents Charles Beasley and Maurine Cheney Beasley; father-in-law Bill Rankin; mother-in-law Melba Lasiter Rankin; and brother Blake Beasley.

Funeral services will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Lacy Funeral Home, 1380 N. Harbin Dr., Stephenville, TX.
