Donald Upton Oakes

A Graveside service for Donald Upton Oakes, 85, business owner, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at West End Cemetery with Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating.

Donald was born in Santa Anna, TX on June 23, 1936, to Neal and Helen (Upton) Oakes.  He married Marjorie Ann Orr on July 10, 1956, in Winters, TX. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2020.

Don graduated from Texas A&M in 1958 with a degree in Agricultural Education.

Don was also an active Mason in many lodges throughout the years.

Don worked in many places including teaching Agriculture, Union Texas Petroleum, and finally owning a grocery store in Coleman, TX. He and his wife, Marjorie, moved to Waco 15 years ago after retiring. He became an active part of FUMC Waco, where his son in law, Stephen served as the senior pastor. He held various officer positions in The Wesleyan Work Sunday School Class, attended a men’s Bible study, helped with annual fruitcake sales, and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Donald is survived by a daughter, Susan Ramsdell and husband, Stephen of McGregor, TX; 3 grandchildren, Matthew Ramsdell and wife, Beth, Deborah Ramsdell, and Christopher Ramsdell and wife, Raschael; and 5 great grandchildren, Levi, Addie, Liam, Layton, and Emma
