Floyd Standifer Obituary

Services for Floyd Kenneth Standifer, 87, will be held at 2pm Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Necessity Cemetery, in Stephens County near Breckenridge, under the direction of Lacy Funeral Home, Stephenville.  Visitation and viewing will be at 1pm at the cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Roger Williams, Tommy Wolfe, Jed Walden, Gary Standifer, Mike Pratt, Mike Driscoll, Johnny Anderson, and Bill Pascoe.

Kenneth was born in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma on January 22, 1933 to Jesse and Rosa (Plunkett) Standifer.  The family moved to Breckenridge, Texas in 1947.  Kenneth graduated Breckenridge High School in 1950 and went on to attend Draughon’s Business College and North Texas State College (now NTSU), earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts in 1955.  While attending BHS he met the love of his life, Charlcy Williams, and they married on May 28, 1955.  Kenneth served in the US Army at Fort Gordon, Georgia from 1955-1957.  He furthered his education at the University of Arizona, where he earned a Master of Science in Vocational Rehabilitation in 1970.  Most of his career was spent in the field of vocational rehabilitation, working for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, and later forming his own company to do vocational evaluations in the Rio Grande Valley. 

Kenneth was a Master Mason in Abilene Lodge 559 and a member of the American Legion.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harry and Jesse, two sisters, Leola and Ruby, twin daughters, Carmen and Camille, and one great grandson, Jack Mettlen.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 65 years, sister Dortha of Abilene, sons Kevin of Stephenville and Charles (Janet) of Weatherford, and daughter Cynthia Pryor (Mike) of Austin.  He also leaves granddaughters Sara Mettlen (Justin), Katherine Krueger (Cameron), Kimberly Giffin (Jonathan), Lashell Standifer, Lauren Standifer, and Brittany Greenwood, grandsons Matt Pryor and Zachary Sandefur, along with 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Kenneth and Charlcy were fortunate to find a wonderful community for their retirement.  The family wishes to thank the neighbors on CR 456 and in Sherwood Forest on PR 897 for their friendship and support over the years.
