Helen Ruth Anderson

Services for Helen Ruth Anderson will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Lacy Funeral Home with Rev. Ben McCleery officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Comanche County, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Lacy Funeral Home. Helen passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, in Stephenville, Texas, at the age of 96. Arrangements are by Lacy Funeral Home.

Helen was born in Proctor, Texas, on August 18, 1928, to parents Ammon Thomas Hughes and Vida Ann (King) Hughes. She married W.T. “Todd” Anderson on September 7, 1946, at Rocky Creek Baptist Church, in Brownwood, Texas. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2008.

Helen was a member of Greens Creek Baptist Church. She enriched and shaped the minds of many young people, serving for many years as an educator. She was a proud member of Alpha Delta Kappa, as well as the Retired Teachers Association of Texas. Helen was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys football fan. In her spare time she also liked to crochet. Helen read the Bible daily, reading it cover to cover each year. Helen’s home was the heart of the family, sharing delicious meals made with love for everyone who came to visit. Helen will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Survivors include daughters, Linda Earp and husband, A.N. “Rusty” of Dublin, Texas, and Sharon Abernathy of Liberty, Texas; grandchildren, Sherry Villemez, Robert McGregor, Dana Gibbs, Boyd Earp, Shelley Mears, and Sheila Flores; ten great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by son-in-law, David Abernathy; one brother, Edwin T. Hughes; and two sisters, Frances Humble, and Mary Gates.
