Jerry Eber Hendon Jr. passed away on Thursday, January 21st, 2021 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville, TX. He was 92 years old.
He was born on June 17th, 1928, near Huckabay, Texas, the son of Jerry Eber Hendon Sr. and Mattie Ruth (Garrett) Hendon.
In 1945, at the age of 16, he graduated valedictorian from Alanreed High School which earned him a scholarship to attend Tarleton University. In May of 1981 he earned an associate degree in Business Management from Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas at the age of 53.
In 1950, he started his oilfield career as a machinist, ran his own oilfield service business, and later went to work for Dresser Industries. He was hired by Mobil Oil Corporation as a Supervisor where he worked until he retired in 1986. After retiring he started his own successful handyman business in Dublin, TX and loved working on projects until he suffered a stroke in 2013. There wasn’t anything in Erath County that he couldn’t fix. Jerry was a resident of the Senior Care Center in Stephenville, TX until the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Strong Hendon; sister, Dorothy Lee Patterson; brothers, Davey Edward Hendon and Billie Garrett Hendon; former wives Betty June Bagwell and Dorothy Stewart Defries; and daughter, Donna Sue Carter
He is survived by his children Dave Hendon, Jerry Hendon, James Dean Hendon, Mike Hendon, Dennis Hendon, Jenny Brown Harrington, James Earl Brown, Julie Childers, and Jill Brown; 34 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; and 19 great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private.
