Lois Catherine Spaugh

Lois Catherine Spaugh, 88, of Stephenville, Texas passed away on June 19, 2018 at Stephenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stephenville, Texas.  She was born on November 22, 1929 in Guatemala City, Guatemala to missionary parents, Rev. Oscar J. and Ina B. Spaugh.

She returned to the United States with her parents at the age of two and resided in western Colorado, then moved with her parents to San Antonio, and later to Lyford, Texas.  She remained a Texan throughout her life, moving to Stephenville in 1981. 

In her younger days, Lois was involved with her parents and brother in missionary work.  She was an integral part of the children’s ministry and music, often playing the piano or accordion for church services and other events.  She loved music, both singing and playing.

On several occasions she made the somewhat long journey to Nebraska with her parents to visit her brother and his wife along with her niece and nephew.  They all have fond memories of “driving” her parents’ car even though it sat in the driveway with the engine off.  One of her favorite responses was, “Oh my goodness”, and everyone left her presence knowing that she was special.

 Lois loved her family and friends, especially her caregivers at the Stephenville Nursing Home.  She had a warm smile and a loving heart; she will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ina Spaugh and her brother Charles David Spaugh.  Survivors include her sister-in-law Nadine Spaugh, niece Ruthie (Jim) Sheets of North Platte, NE and family, nephew Glen (Doris) Spaugh of Gordon, NE and family as well as other family and friends.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2:00 PM at the West End Cemetery.  Lacy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
