Services for Marie Clayton, 91, office manager for the Jones County Farm Bureau for more than 20 years, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 7, 2022, at Lingleville Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Hurt officiating. Burial will follow at Bunyan Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Lacy Funeral Home.
Marie was born in Plainview, Texas on May 10, 1931, to Travis and Preble (Reese) Smith. She was a star defensive player for the Jayton Jaybirds basketball team, and she graduated from Jayton High School as the Salutatorian. She married Kirby Clayton in Eastland, Texas. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2001.
Marie was previously a member of First Baptist Church of Anson, and currently was a member of Lingleville Baptist Church. She loved to cook and read. Everyone who knew her is going to miss her famous apricot fried pies. She loved her family and adored her grand and great grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her 2 children, Judy Trotti and husband Carl of Belton, Texas, and Gary Clayton and wife Cindy of Dublin, Texas; grandchildren, Amberly Walker and husband Brock of Austin, Texas, Tricia Hackfield and husband Brandon of Willow Park, Texas, Brooke Reich and husband Joshua of College Station, Texas, Candace Clayton of Dublin, Texas, and Taylor Clayton of Houston, Texas; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Louise Hopper of Jayton, Texas; and brother, Eldon Smith and wife Betty of Lubbock, Texas.
