Mary Ellen Fulenwider Obituary

Mary Ellen (McEndree) Fulenwider, age 103, of Childress, Texas, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13, at 11:00 am at the Childress Church of Christ with Dr. Mike Henderson officiating and Dr. Green assisting. Burial will follow at the Childress Cemetery, and a meal and visitation will be held after the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mary Ellen was born at home on September 17, 1920, outside the small town of Corbett, Teas, in Navarro County to Melvin K. Bryant and Mary Ellen Unger Bryant. Later that year, the family moved to the Eldorado, Oklahoma area, where she attended school and eventually married Walter Raleigh McEndree on February 14, 1946.

She and Walter farmed in the Tucumcari, New Mexico; Gould, Oklahoma; and Kirkland, Texas areas until they moved to Childress, Texas in 1958. She was a homemaker until the death of Walter in 1962, when she went to work in the clothing manufacturing trade and as an Avon representative. She was also proud of her work counting ballots for the elections that we held in Childress.

She was a longtime member of the Kirkland Church of Christ and then later the Hillcrest Church of Christ when the church relocated to Childress. She taught Sunday School and also kept the business records for the church.

In August 2012, she relocated to an assisted living facility in Stephenville, Texas, to be closer to family. While there, she was active in numerous activities and appointed a Community Ambassador.

Mary Ellen is survived by her daughter, Phillis Brock and husband, Kip, of Stephenville, her son, Phillip McEndree and wife, Sue, of Beeville, Marcus McEndree and wife, Jeanne, of Stephenville, her son-in-law, Charles Moore of Childress, and by grandchildren Brad Ransom, DeAnn Weatherred, Tammi Copeland, Mandi Goodwin, Casandra Cox, and Marci Mills. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, her two sisters and seven brothers, her daughter Karen Moore, and her grandson, Eddie Ransom. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Hoyt Fulenwider.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the love and assistance provided by Nora Scitern, a dedicated hospice caregiver.
