Richard L. Lucas

On November 11, 2020, Veterans Day, The Lord ordered Chief Master Sergeant Richard Loyd Lucas to report for duty with the Heavenly Honor Guard. Richard (Luke) was born 28 April, 1933 to Loyd and Bo (Richards) Lucas, 1 ½ miles north of Lingleville, TX. He was the first of nine children.

Visitation will be at the First Christian Church from 1:00 -2:00 PM, Saturday, November 14, 2020. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M Saturday, November 14, 2020 by Elder Debbie Hines and Pastor KJ Kim, at the First Christian Church of Stephenville, TX. Burial will follow at the West End Cemetery of Stephenville, TX.

Luke entered the USAF in 1951. From September ’51 to September ’52 he served in the Police Action in Korea. He was then assigned to Lowry Field in Denver, CO where he served on the Eisenhower Summer White House for 3 years. He processed the first class of Cadets for the new Air Force Academy. From Colorado he went to Bryan, TX and assisted in closing Bryan AFB. Next, he went to Moody AFB, GA. While there he was selected to attend Radio Analytical Intelligence School. His next 22 years were spent as an analyst. His years of military service carried him and family to Turkey, Italy, Japan (twice), Maryland, Georgia, and St. Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea.

Luke married Colleen Collins, daughter of T.B. and Lula Collins in October ’52 and she was his inspiration for 62 years. Their daughter, Kathleen Elizabeth Lucas is a civil lawyer in Gainesville, FL. Their son, Robert Luke Lucas is an electrical engineer and lives in Hickory Creek, TX.

Luke was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen, parents, Loyd and Bo (Richards) Lucas; sisters, Peggy (Lucas) Conger, and Dorothy (Lucas) Collins; brothers, Jim Lucas, and Byrl (Pete) Lucas.

Luke is survived by his two children, Kathleen Elizabeth Lucas, and partner Marcia Millett of Gainesville, FL, and Robert Luke Lucas of Hickory Creek, TX; special friend, Dianne Swanson; one brother and three sisters, Charles and Janet of Hurst, Mary Quarles and Marlin of Morgan Mill, Judy Huston and Jim of Stephenville, and Leona Rogers and Earl of Stephenville. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

After retiring from the Air Force, Luke spent the next 21 years as the Director of Special Needs Transportation for Northside Independent School District in San Antonio. He was a member of the Lingleville Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason belonging to the Dallas Scottish Rite. He also belonged to the Freedom Through Vigilance Association and KAS ’60-’61 Club of Karamursel, Turkey.

He was awarded many medals and citations during his military and civilian careers. He was an Elder and Men’s Sunday School Class teacher at the First Christian Church. Out of all of the awards he ever received, he was the proudest of one little pin given to him by his church buddies of the First Christian Church- his elders pin.
