Rita Julia Kernaghan, 88

Rita Kernaghan, Wife, Mother, and dear friend to all died peacefully in her home on August 19, 2023 in Tolar, Texas.

She was born in Electra, Texas on November 24,1934, one of eleven children born to Norbert and Emma Jacobi.

Rita always loved children and after graduating from High School in Electra, she studied at the University of Dallas and taught at St. Cecilia’s School in Dallas before meeting Daniel Kernaghan, her husband of nearly 64 years.

Passionate about her faith, she taught religious education for a couple of decades at various parishes throughout Texas. She was a member of the Lay Carmelites, St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, a community in Fort Worth. Rita and Daniel have been members of St Brendan Catholic Community in Stephenville for 26 years.

Rita was a devoted wife and mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Daniel Kernaghan and their six Children, William and Jackie Kernaghan of Fort Worth, Daniel and Carol Kernaghan of Tolar, Kathleen and Duncan Riley of Colleyville, Mary and Brian Gorman of Garland, John Kernaghan of Tolar, and Patricia Steed of Austin. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be held at Lacy Funeral Home, 1380 N Harbin Dr on Thursday, August 24th at 7:00pm

Her service will be held at St. Brendan Catholic Church, 1444 W. Washington St. on Friday, August 25th at 10am.
