Tomosa “Tomi” Anne Martin, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the DeLeon, Texas Nursing and Rehab Center, with her family holding her hand, on Thursday, October 13, 2020, after a courageous battle with complications from a stroke. She was 83.
Tomosa Anne Martin was born September 13, 1937, to Tom and Gerlena White Martin in Scottsbluff, Nebraska as the fourth child of five and grew up there, graduating from Scottsbluff High School in 1955. She married Raymond Kinslow and had the first of three daughters, Ralena, Annette and Susie. They later divorced. She then married Jack Pollard and they were blessed with twin boys, Micky and Ricky. After many years of marriage, they parted ways, and she then met the love of her life Kirk Phillips. Tomosa and Kirk were together for 20 plus years until his passing in 2019.
She grew up always around horses and had a great love of anything that involved them. Her father sold horses so there were always plenty around. In high school she joined the Scottsbluff Saddle Club and spent many years as a member there.
Throughout her life, she lived in several places, Kansas, Oregon, New Mexico, Colorado and finally Texas. Wherever she was though, she was always very active in her children’s lives, whether it was being a Girl Scout Leader, 4-H leader or most of all, their love of Rodeoing and traveling with her children taking them to rodeos all over the United States. She was an avid fan of anything Rodeo and followed it closely, throughout her life. She owned her own Ceramic Shop in Loveland, Colorado and spent many happy years there with her sister Kay, as her partner. While there, they both judged ceramics shows and held classes for all ages. She also loved sewing, making Halloween costumes, complete wardrobes for every Barbie her girls ever had, plus beautiful western shirts and many Prom dresses. Crocheting was also one of her favorite pastimes and she always had hooks and yarn handy. Many of us were lucky enough to have one of her gorgeous afghans. Her greatest personal accomplishment, was when she went back to school and got her Associates Degree in Psychology, in her late 60’s. She loved animals of all kinds and always had a cat or dog or more around. She even befriended the local squirrels and fed them regularly. She was a fun and loving grandma, and nothing made her eyes sparkle more than when she was spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Ralena McCurdy and husband Mike, Lawrence, Kansas and Annette Moore and partner Rick Toney, Saskatchewan, Canada and son Micky Pollard and wife Becky, Stephenville, Texas. Tomi was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a slew of nieces and nephews.
Tomi was proceeded in death by her dearest partner Kirk, parents, Tom and Gerlena Martin, a daughter, Amy Sue “Susie” Gray and most recently her son, Ricky Jack Pollard. Also, by her sisters, Chris and Kay and brothers, Jack and Howard along with her lovely pup Lily and Petey & Louie, her adored cats.
Her Celebration of Life was held June 25th, 2021, on top of one of her favorite places, Wolf Creek Pass Summitt, Pagosa Springs, Colorado. After a brief ceremony, her ashes along with Kirk’s, Lily, Petey and Louie, were released by each family member wishing to do so.
