Velta Elizabeth (Gilly) Stone

Velta Stone, 86 of Stephenville, entered her heavenly rest on May 20, 2022, in Stephenville, Texas. Services for Velta will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, May 23, 2022, at Lacy Funeral Home with Rev. Werth Mayes officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M.- 6:00 P.M. Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Lacy Funeral Home.

Velta was born in San Angelo, Texas on July 15, 1935, to Benny Boyd (BB) and Roxy Bell (Jackson) Gilly.

The family moved to Erath County in 1941. Velta attended school at both Oak Dale and Stephenville schools. She married Richard Odie Stone on October 20, 1951, at the Gilly home in Stephenville, Texas.  They resided in Stephenville their entire married life. They also had three children. Richard preceded her in death on February 10, 2010.

Velta loved her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids. She loved working in her yard, visiting, and talking. She was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church, and a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She worked several jobs during her lifetime and enjoyed the people she encountered. She retired at age 80.

Velta is survived by her children, Richard Randall Stone and his wife Teresa Lynne, Rebecca Jo McDougal, and Anthony “Tony” Glen Stone and his wife Vicki; grandchildren, Chad Alan Stone and wife Kelly, Roger Lynn Stone and wife Cheyenne, Brandon Marchelle Lee, Brian Andrew Lee and wife Crystal, Ashley Nichole Bergman and husband Josh, Erica Marie Helmig and husband Aaron; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, BB and Roxy Gilly, five brothers, Victor, Connis (CC), Ben, Jack, James, and one sister, Marjorie (Marjo) Massey.
