Walter (Jakie) Jacob Brooks

Services for Walter Jacob “Jakie” Brooks, Jr., 63, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the First Baptist Church, Stephenville, Texas, with Pastor Gib Baskerville officiating and assisted by Dr. Ken May. Burial will follow at East Memorial Cemetery, Stephenville, Texas. Visitation will be held from 7:00-9:00 p.m., March 30, 2022, at Lacy Funeral Home. 

Jake was born in Prague, Oklahoma, on December 1, 1958, to Walter Jacob Brooks, Sr., and Billie Ann (Weston) Brooks. He married Diane Greer on November 11, 1985.

Jake was a manager for multiple electric companies, a member of the Baptist Church, an avid football fan, and he was on the 1975 De Leon State Championship Football Team. Jake was a loving husband, father, PaPa, uncle, and friend. Jake was known for never having met a stranger and known to many as “Jake the Snake.”

Survivors include his wife, Diane Brooks of Stephenville, Texas; children, Jason Hicks and wife, Jennifer, of Stephenville, Texas, Ashley Brooks of Stephenville, Texas, and Jenna Brooks of Stephenville, Texas; granddaughters, Abigail (Abby) Hicks and Hallee Jones of Stephenville, Texas; sisters, Robin Asa and husband, Bill, of Round Rock, Texas, and Lynn Newton of Bangs, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Papa Jake, and his mother and step-father, Nana Billie and Freddie Lightfoot.
